A SCHOOL in Congleton has completed a programme of playground improvements with support from a local homebuilder.
Havannah Primary School reached out to Castle Green Homes and received a grant under the Mission Green initiative towards the works.
Chairman of the governors John Sherwood explained: “The playground at the rear of the school was often affected by muddy water and leaves blocking the drains making the playground hazardous for children. To reduce the problem of muddy puddles we embarked on a programme of cleaning the drains, fixing the school’s drainage down pipes and edging the lawns. With Castle Green’s help we’ve installed a row of railway sleepers along one of the playground edges, providing a long-term solution in place of sandbags. A bonus is the sleepers can be used by the children as a seat to help them remove their wellies after going to the school’s forest school.”
Castle Green has supported 18 projects in the Congleton area via the Mission Green scheme. It’s shared more than £9,000 with good causes under the voluntary initiative and has also provided funding to Congleton Santa, plus sponsored a health and wellbeing fayre and the 2026 Congleton Jazz and Blues Festival.
Sales director Sian Pitt said: “Mission Green has enabled us to get right to the heart of the Congleton community, funding projects that help look after the environment and residents’ wellbeing. The application from Havannah Primary School is a prime example as they’ve been able to enhance their outside space, making it more useable, enabling children to spend more time outside.”
The homebuilder’s support for these community projects is in addition to investment in local infrastructure, known as Section 106 contributions, agreed during the planning process.
