Pupils at Harpur Hill Primary School in Buxton recently received a donation of reflective vests from Barratt Homes to help them shine bright whilst on their way to and from school now the darker winter nights are here.

The five star housebuilder gave the school reflective vests for its pupils to wear whilst walking to and from school, ensuring they can be easily seen on the roads as the darker nights draw in.

With the sun rising later and setting earlier, Barratt Homes has made this donation to help encourage safe travel and to celebrate the journey to school on foot.

Amanda Nuttall, Deputy Headteacher at Harpur Hill Primary School, said: “We are really grateful for the donation of hi-vis vests. The children loved trying them on and are looking forward to our visits out when we will make very good use of the vests.

“The vests make the children so much more visible to motorists, they are an essential piece of equipment for the darker days or in bad weather. We thank Barratt Homes very much for supporting us to keep the children safe.”

Harpur Hill Primary School is located near the homebuilder’s Heathfield Nook and High Peak Medow developments on Burlow Road and the donation of hi-vis vests is another part of Barratt Homes’ outreach to the local community.

In what’s been a challenging time for schools across the country as a result of the pandemic, the leading developer is as committed as ever to providing support all year round and the donation follows Walk to School Month and Road Safety Week.

Neil Goodwin, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We want to ensure the pupils in the local communities remain visible now the darker nights are here, and our donation has hopefully still encouraged them to safely practice walking to school in the darker mornings and evenings.

“We actively support school pupils at this time of year as we endeavour to help their efforts to commute on foot, and the vests have proven to be both effective and practical.

“As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, it’s even more important for us to support the local schools in and around the communities we build, so we’re thrilled to have had the chance to support Harpur Hill Primary School during the coming months.”

Barratt Homes’ hi-vis vests will be particularly useful during the winter, whilst being certain to benefit the pupils in their future journeys to school throughout the winter months.
