CONSTRUCTION of new homes in Catterall is now underway with the first properties due for completion early next year.

Site manager Ian Tomlinson is overseeing work at Cross Fields, an Anwyl Homes development that will bring more than £250,000 of community investment to the area.

The development will feature 80 homes including 24 affordable properties, which will be offered via a housing association for either shared ownership or affordable rent.

Work to clear the site began earlier in the year, with infrastructure and construction works now underway.

Ian, who lives in Liverpool, said: “Cross Fields is an exciting new challenge for me as it’s the first site I’ve managed from the start. It’s early days for the development but we have a good strong team of trades working here. Everyone understands the standard of workmanship required and is committed to helping deliver high quality homes that we would all be proud to live in ourselves.”

Having started out as an apprentice joiner almost 30 years ago, Ian has worked his way up through the ranks and was promoted to site manager last year. when the original site manager at an Anwyl site in Barton retired.

Linked to the Cross Fields development, Anwyl will pay more than £26,000 towards improvements to nearby Garstang Medical Centre and make a highways contribution of £224,000 to Lancashire County Council, which is expected to fund sustainable transport initiatives.

Located just off the A6, homes at Cross Fields will enjoy a rural village setting with a real sense of community. Local amenities include a village hall, Co-op food store and outreach post office. The wider shops and services of Garstang are easily reached, including Booths and Sainsbury’s supermarkets and a weekly outdoor market; and there are pubs, restaurants and farm shops aplenty in the surrounding villages.

Show homes at Cross Fields are due to open this winter, with the first properties expected to be ready to move into in early 2023.
