To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII, the team at Wilmslow Manor, located on Handforth Road, hosted a wonderful day full of celebrations for residents and their families to enjoy.

The Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr David Edwardes, attended the event, enjoying a tour of the luxury 66 bed care home and light refreshments with residents. He also said a few heartfelt words to mark the historic occasion.

The VJ Day celebrations started with magical live music in the garden from Katrina Bryan, with several of the residents’ favourite songs performed, including The White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll Meet Again.

A delicious buffet of classic British dishes, freshly prepared by the chef, was served, along with a fabulous celebratory cake and a selection of decorated cup cakes.

With the sun shining down on Wilmslow Manor, the care home and garden were transformed with an array of Union Jack decorations, bringing a sense of pride, passion and heroic charm.

Darren Molyneux, home manager at Wilmslow Manor, says: “It was important to the residents that we marked the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. We wanted the VJ Day event to be celebratory, allowing residents and their families the opportunity to spend time together reminiscing, storytelling, singing and dancing, and that was exactly what happened! It was a super afternoon full of fun and smiling faces, which is always lovely to see.

“Having the Mayor of Cheshire East attend was fantastic too. It was great to meet Cllr David Edwardes, show him around Wilmslow Manor and introduce him to some residents.”

Trudy Donbavand, a resident at Wilmslow Manor, adds: “The team at Wilmslow Manor always go above and beyond, hosting fantastic events for us to enjoy. The VJ Day celebrations were perfect. It was nice to mark the occasion and remember the past. Plus, I enjoyed meeting the Mayor of Cheshire East.”
