Trafford Council’s commitment to working with local communities across the Borough, in particular through its “Be Bold-Be the Difference” campaign, has been recognised in the prestigious national LGC Awards 2017.
Against strong opposition, its entry ‘Locality Working in Trafford’ has been shortlisted in the ‘Community Involvement’ category, something described by the judges as a ‘fantastic achievement’.
The Council’s submission highlighted the significant work that is being undertaken, acknowledged that local people are often best placed to support each other and take positive action to improve their local area, and reinforced the commitment of everyone involved to ensure people have the support and opportunities to make a difference.
Executive Member for Communities and Partnerships, Cllr John Lamb, welcomed the news, adding: “With the continuing need to provide the best possible support, while at the same time achieving the continuing savings needed, it is only by working together with individuals, community groups and other interested parties, that we are going to be able to achieve the best possible outcomes. Our Locality Working programme has the added benefit of helping influence the wider Greater Manchester devolution agenda, to deliver benefits for our local communities.
The response of so many individuals, community groups and organisations in our efforts has seen us achieve so much already and gives us confidence as we move forward that so much more will be achieved. Through sharing knowledge and skills, utilising all our strengths, finding innovative solutions to issues and providing real support and opportunities for people to help themselves and their communities, we can continue to improve, strengthen and highlight Trafford as a great Borough to live, work and relax.
I would like to thank every single person who over recent times has come together with us on this journey. Now we are seeing the huge benefits their efforts are making, I am confident that more people will feel empowered to join us and help influence their lives and their local communities.”
The Council will now need to give a final presentation to the judging panel in January 2017, prior to the winners being announced at an award ceremony in London on Wednesday, 8 March 2017.
