While at the gallery, visitors can vote for their favourite piece of artwork in the Adult and Children’s category of the People’s Choice Award. The Winners will be announced on the last day of the exhibition on Saturday 3rd September, with a Prize Giving taking place at 3pm at the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery by the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Chris Gordon.
Councillor Kate Butler, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “This is a wonderful exhibition which brings together a range of high quality artworks from emerging and established artists in the region. This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to enjoy the art scene that Stockport has to offer and visit one of our many outstanding museums.”
Bill Clark, from Clark Art in Hale and one of the guest judges, said: “The standard of work was really high this year and I was impressed by the diversity of the work submitted. The Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery team has done a fantastic job hanging the exhibition and it looks visually stunning. Over 140 works are on display and there is a real eclectic mix of paintings, photography and sculpture on display. It’s a great opportunity to buy a piece of original art by a local artist at a very affordable price.”
Judith Donaghy, a Stockport artist featured at the exhibition, said: “Great to see the Stockport Open Exhibition back at the gallery with a wonderful variety of quality work on display throughout. There were loads of people at the preview soaking up the friendly atmosphere and enjoying the paintings. I’m already looking to the event next year. What a bonus for Stockport visitors!”
