The way the government funds apprenticeships in England is changing. Some employers will be required to contribute to a new apprenticeship levy, and there will be changes to the funding for apprenticeship training for all employers.

Stockport Council is helping local employers to understand the Levy with a series of events covering:
• How payments are calculated and made
• How to purchase training
• How to use the new Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS)
• Where to access additional support.

Employers who have attended events in the past have said that they are informative, relevant and they would recommend the events to others.

Announced in 2015, the Apprenticeship Levy aims to fund three million apprenticeships in the UK by 2020.

The new Apprenticeship Levy comes into effect in April 2017 with companies seeing their first payment being taken in May 2017.

Councillor Dean Fitzpatrick, Executive member for Education, said: “It is important we support our employers to understand the Apprenticeship Levy, a large proportion of employers in Stockport have apprentices, so we need to make sure they understand the changes.”
