An inspirational Biology teacher at Abbey College Manchester has ran a gruelling 50km, raising much-needed funds for mental health charity, MIND.
Rob Jackson, took on the demanding Ultra Run challenge seventy years on from his grandad’s outstanding 3rd place finish in the 1950 London (Polytechnic Harriers) Marathon, the biggest race of its day. Raising almost £1,000 for the worthy cause, Rob also ran in memory of his mother, who sadly passed away in 2014.
As a respected and much-loved member of the Abbey College Manchester community, Rob has taught at the leading independent college for almost 11 years and is a dedicated runner. He completed the almighty feat in 4 hours and 13 minutes, running around his local area.
Reflecting on his achievement, Rob commented, “The last three miles in particular were really hard, but I had strong support from my wife, dad, brother and other family members who were providing the glucose sports drinks and energy gels. My legs were smashed afterwards!”
Liz Elam, Principal at Abbey College Manchester commented, “Our college community is very proud of Rob for his outstanding fundraising efforts. 50km is a mighty distance, which is not only physically testing but mentally challenging too, and we are delighted that while also fundraising for mental health, Rob has also raised important awareness.”
