Dorothy Hill, resident at Richmond Villages Nantwich, turned 101 on 17th August, celebrating with cake, cards and flowers galore.
Staff and residents at Richmond Villages Nantwich, came together to celebrate a very special 101st birthday this week. Dorothy, who has lived in Nantwich for most of her life and at Richmond Nantwich for the last five years, was joined by staff and follow residents to celebrate her significant milestone at the luxury retirement village.
Born in 1919, Dorothy remarks that in the same year, pop-up toasters and the short wave radio were invented. She said: “I do like to enjoy a piece of well-buttered toast whilst listening to the radio in the morning, maybe it’s no coincidence.”
With it being such a momentous occasion, the team at Richmond Nantwich wanted to do something special, so put out an appeal for birthday cards – aiming to decorate Dorothy’s room with a display of 101 cards on her 101st birthday. In only three weeks, exactly 101 cards were received from friends and well-wishers across the local community. The team were thrilled, and Dorothy was blown away, receiving so many kind messages.
When asked about her birthday celebrations, Dorothy said: “I can’t believe I’ve received so my cards. They’ve taken a lot of opening but my goodness, how kind people are to take the time out to send me a card and think of me today – I’m so grateful!”
Jane-Ann Stubbs, Head of Activities at Richmond Villages Nantwich, who made the appeal added: “We’ve had such a wonderful response to the birthday card appeal and are very touched by the number of people who have reached out and supported us and our residents – it’s a kindness that really brings the Nantwich community together.
“We also have another 101st birthday approaching and would like to ask people to make fellow resident, Millicent’s day, by sending a card to the village and wishing her a happy birthday, too. We thoroughly appreciate everyone’s support as we continue to help our residents live longer, happier and healthier lives at Richmond Nantwich.”
Richmond Villages Nantwich offers a range of retirement accommodation tailored to the individual needs of each resident, including apartments, suites and a residential care home. The village also boasts an onsite restaurant, bar and hair and beauty room.
