A business agile physiotherapy practice has set out its stall in a North Lancashire hotel to treat more patients across the county.

Former Premier League football physio Mark Leather has hired out a bespoke treatment room for his team to serve customers in the Sandpiper health and fitness club at Lancaster House Hotel.

The physiotherapy clinic, which operates across Lancashire and South Cumbria, approached the hotel with a partnership proposal due to the venue’s on-site facilities, including the health club and pool which can be used for rehabilitation programmes for patients.

“We have a multi-disciplinary approach to our physiotherapy services, from sports or work related injury treatment and post-surgical care through to soft tissue massage and rehabilitation techniques such as hydrotherapy,” explains Mark Leather.

“Lancaster House Hotel is a conducive working environment which allows us to provide more joined up treatment and recovery programmes.  With the treatment room in the Sandpiper health club and access to the pool, it ticks all the boxes.

“Every patient has their own individual requirements depending on the nature of their injury. So we pride ourselves on giving each of them a bespoke treatment, rehabilitation and prevention plan.”

The hotel run by English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues has three different treatment rooms for rental by independent businesses.  Mark Leather Physiotherapy joins mobile beauty therapist Tracey Houghton and internationally trained hair stylist Samantha Riley in a line-up to meet the needs of health club members, hotel guests and private clients.

General manager of Lancaster House Hotel Emma Underwood says: “A physiotherapist of Mark’s standing and prominence offering his expertise here is great for the hotel and adds to the wider range of services we can provide.  There cannot be many hotels which have their own in-house physiotherapy team to call on.

“We already have Sandpiper Club members booking in physiotherapy appointments for injury treatment and prevention advice.  Hopefully the team’s regular presence here will also give Lancaster residents the chance to access physiotherapy treatment from some of the best in the business.”

Having qualified as a physiotherapist in the 1980s, Mark first worked for the NHS before a move into professional football, including over a decade in the Premier League as head physiotherapist for Liverpool and Sunderland.

He has also worked for Preston North End, Burnley, Brighton and Bolton Wanderers, as well as a stint in rugby league as head physio for Wigan Warriors and a commission at the Commonwealth Games.
