Leading developer David Wilson Homes North West has donated £1,000 to The Jumbulance Trust, which offers accessible travel to those with disabilities or complex health conditions.
The leading developer’s grand gesture to The Jumbulance Trust has gone towards the charity’s quarterly newsletter, which helps it to communicate better with stakeholders and volunteers and increase recruitment.
Whilst the coach depot is based in Bolton, the potential holiday destinations include excursions to mainland Europe such as Eurodisney, and many hotel resorts.
Joe O’Dwyer, Chair at The Jumbulance Trust, said: “The work we do is very important. Without Jumbulance, many individuals and families with a significant disability would be unable to go away for a short break or holiday, providing much needed respite for the disabled person, their families and carers.
“Especially now, where COVID has left a legacy of persons feeling vulnerable, isolated and afraid of going out, an organisation like Jumbulance can provide a safe and effective way of reintegrating people into society through travel.”
The charity operates two coaches that are fully adapted and equipped with a tail-lift capable of taking stretchers, as well as having room down one side of the coach for five stretchers or six wheelchairs.
Also, each coach has a toilet equipped for disabled individuals with access on the same level as the seating and a galley kitchen with hot water, a fridge, cooker and a microwave, so that meals can be provided on-board.
Joe added: “Although based in Hertfordshire, with a local group of volunteers, Jumbulance Trust is also a national charity with other Jumbulance Groups based elsewhere the UK that operate in a range of communities.
“It’s very important for organisations like ours that, both nationally and at a local level, they continue to receive donations to enable them to carry out activities. Without this, the building blocks of local community support for vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and groups will not survive in the current economic situation.”
With David Wilson Homes building at several different developments around Lancashire, the developer wanted to make a positive impact on the community and help ease the suffering faced by many in the last couple of years.
Robert Holbrook, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As a leading developer, it is important that we support organisations and charities in our surrounding areas in order to leave a positive impact in the communities in which we build.
“The Jumbulance Trust is a fantastic organisation that provides many people all over the country with the opportunity to travel and experience more of the world away from their homes. With the recent limitations on travel, this service is more important now than ever before.
“We are encouraging everyone to continue to support local causes like this; we’ve been huge ambassadors for working together to support each other, but team spirit is needed now more than ever before.”
This donation was made through the developer’s North West Community Fund, which aims to support local community projects and organisations throughout the North West.
