Official opening included a special visit from the Mayor of Sefton, Counsellor June Burns

Residents from the L30 Community Centre attended the opening following their recent participation in a VIY volunteering project, along with students from two local schools.

Home improvement retailer, Wickes celebrated the opening of its new-look store in Aintree with a family fun weekend and exclusive discounts available.

The Mayor of Sefton, Counsellor June Burns, attended the opening on Friday 31 May to officially cut the ribbon. Exclusive discounts ran throughout the weekend and there were also face painters, balloons and cupcakes available to keep the whole family entertained.

On Saturday, shoppers also had the chance to meet one of the UK’s most famous four-legged mascots, as the Dulux dog was in store for the day.

The new Wickes store features a brand new kitchen and bathroom showroom to help customers plan their dream home, as well as an in-store Dulux colour mixing service. There’s also a wide range of new products available from stylish flooring to gardening products, to help create the perfect space. Professional design consultants will always be on hand in the kitchen and bathroom showroom offering support and friendly advice to customers who are undergoing transformation projects, together with providing a free design service.

Members of the L30 Community Centre, a multi-purpose venue in Netherton, attended the opening following their involvement in a VIY (Volunteer It Yourself) volunteering project, along with two two local schools, the Grange Primary School and St. Benedict’s Primary School. With help from members of the local community, the students built planters which are now being used to brighten up the local estate which the centre and school serves. Following Friday’s launch event, the Mayor of Sefton will also be holding an official opening of the community’s new garden area, with representatives from Wickes also invited. The Wickes store in Aintree donated all the tools and materials required for the project and covered the cost of professional tradespeople to act as mentors on the ground. Mike Jones, Operations Manager, also attended the project to share his valuable skills and knowledge with the young learners.

Barrie Stanley, Store Manager at Wickes, Aintree comments: “The revamp of the Aintree store has been designed to make shopping for home improvement projects simpler than ever before, with the new layout making it easier to find everything customers need in one trip.
