David Wilson Homes has donated £1,500 to Home-Start Southport and Formby to support families in need.
Helping families since 2001, Home-Start Southport and Formby specialises in preventative support through a combination of home visits, support groups, social events and counselling.
The support from the developer, based nearby at Pavilion Gardens, will help the charity’s dedicated and experienced volunteers offer early intervention to support families in need before a crisis point is reached.
David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
According to the Office for National Statistics, In the UK, the price of consumer goods and services rose at the fastest rate in four decades. Some 36% of adults making rent or mortgage payments said they were finding it very or somewhat difficult to afford payments and with the cost of food continuing to rise, half of adults in Great Britain reported buying less food when food shopping.
Having seen the positive impact on many families, the contribution has been dedicated to funding essential projects and weekly workshops that target the most vulnerable and isolated families.
Karen Cooke, Senior Coordinator at Home-Start Southport and Formby said: “We believe all children need a happy and secure childhood and our aim is to respond to each family’s individual needs.
“The success of our project is based on our generous beneficiaries. By supporting local charities and organisations, David Wilson Homes has made an invaluable contribution to the Southport and Formby community.”
Home-Start currently supports around 65 families on a weekly basis across Southport and Formby through groups, support work and volunteer visits which help people make positive changes to their lives, and enable them to stand on their own feet again.
Karen continued: “Children’s lives improve immeasurably when their parents feel supported. With the help of David Wilson Homes’ donation, we are able to assist the families in our community who need it the most.”
The pandemic proved a difficult time for Home-Start and many of its members. With many families overwhelmed during the pandemic and the subsequent cost-of-living crisis, the charity swiftly established an emergency response team for its most vulnerable families in the area.
With the help of its volunteers, weekly deliveries of fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, slow cookers, toys, books and games have been organised.
Philippa Stewart, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support Home-Start Southport and Formby and the important work it is doing.
“It is important to us as a leading housebuilder to recognise and support local charities and organisations which help the communities near our developments.”
