Macclesfield residents are being asked to get their thinking caps on and recommend items to be placed into a time capsule that will be planted on the site of two new retirement developments in the town.

The time capsule will be planted near to McCarthy Stone’s Kings Scholars Court and John Percyvale Court developments, which will be located next to each other on Coare Street in Macclesfield.

The UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities is asking local people to suggest items which either represent the area or the times we live in.

Construction is well under way at both developments, with the first residents set to move in from summer next year.

Fiona Brooks, Divisional Sales Director at McCarthy Stone, explained: “To mark the creation of not one but two new retirement communities in Macclesfield, we want to do something to leave a legacy for local people and give them an understanding of how life was.

“Macclesfield and the wider Peak District boast a rich history, which we as a developer are eager to honour and preserve. We’re urging local people to come forward with their ideas of what we should include – it could be anything from a newspaper or map, to photographs; we are very much open to ideas!

“Hopefully the time capsule will be unearthed one day and provide much joy and interest for this who discover it.”

To take part, please contact mccarthyandstone@mccann.com with your suggestion or a picture of what you want to include by the closing date of Sunday 27th November 2022 with ‘Macclesfield Time Capsule’ in the subject. In your email, you should include your full name, location, and reasons why you think your suggestion should be included. Each person is permitted to submit a maximum of three ideas. All items that are suggested must be able to stand the test of time and fit inside the time capsule, which measures at approximately 10 by 14 inches. All items submitted will not be returned.

John Percyvale Court will comprise 31 one- and 30 two-bedroom Retirement Plus properties for sale, rental or part-buy, part-rent, ideal for over-70s seeking an independent lifestyle with support on hand when they need it.
