The Amazon fulfilment centre in Bolton is celebrating National Learning at Work Week (13 – 19 May) by urging staff at the site to sign up for a programme that offers funded, nationally-recognised training courses aimed at developing their career.

The Amazon Career Choice programme encourages Amazon associates to pursue training and qualifications in high-demand fields such as engineering, IT, computer science, mechanical and electrical trades, healthcare, construction, transportation, logistics, accounting and more, even if that means a career outside of Amazon.

Amazon pre-pays 95% of tuition and associated fees for the nationally-recognised courses, up to £8,000 over four years.

Bolton’s Carly Barton is one of hundreds of Amazon associates taking part in the programme. She is now encouraging her fellow employees to take part.

Carly has worked with Amazon for almost three years and is currently studying a Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply module.

“The Amazon Career Choice programme has been really beneficial for me during my time with the company, helping me get the qualifications to take on different roles in different fulfilment centres. In just under three years here, I’ve worked at Amazon in Bolton, Manchester, Rugeley, Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead and even in Prague.”

“My job is in IT and it’s fast paced. It’s a constantly evolving environment and the Career Choice programme will help me gain valuable knowledge to be able to specialise as either a Category Manager or IT Procurement Specialist in the future. It’s also great because it helps to promote more women in Operations and IT, which I’m really passionate about.”

“I’d encourage everyone at Amazon to give Career Choice a go! It’s a great way to improve your skills and grow your opportunities either at Amazon or with another company.”

Paul Ashraf, General Manager at Amazon in Bolton, said:

“We want everyone at Amazon to pursue their dream job and that’s what the Amazon Career Choice programme is all about. We believe that of all our associates should have the opportunity to develop their skills and that’s why we’re offering funded training courses in a range of interests and industries. I’m looking forward to seeing the latest group of recruits join the Amazon Career Choice programme and congratulate Carly and her colleagues on their achievements.”
