A local charity in Bury has received a generous donation of £6,000 from the Asda Foundation, which will go towards helping to renovate and expand their small café and make it into a welcoming space for visitors.
The Enterprise Centre, based in Tottington, provides personal development skills centered around nature, conservation and outdoor activities. Through enterprise training and access to the benefits of nature, the charity aims to help develop confidence and self-esteem in young people living in the local area.
Relying on small grants and donations, the charity has been able to help over 200 youngsters who struggle with a range of issues. The Asda funding will provide a welcome boost to the community centre, enabling the provision of decking, awning and equipment to transform a small portacabin into a new café in the heart of the Kirklees Valley Trail.
Alison Hornsby, founder of the Enterprise Centre, said: “The donation has made a huge difference for the café and community garden. It’s turned what was a little hut into something substantial and we’ll be having our grand opening on March 2nd.”
“The fact that we got money from Asda also translated into them helping us develop our community garden, so we’ve essentially almost doubled in progress thanks to the donations.”
Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation is a registered charity that aims to have a positive impact on local communities, making independent grants to provide support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda’s community life colleagues throughout the UK.
It funds charitable projects and activities what have the ability and potential to achieve change for the better – with the aim of making a significant difference to local communities and the people who live there, both now and in the future.
The Asda Foundation is celebrating its 30th birthday over the next year with a number of surprise grants to previously supported projects totalling to £300,000.
The application to the Asda Foundation by the Enterprise Centre was supported by store colleagues at the Asda store at Pilsworth Road in Bury.
Jill Brady, Asda Pilsworth’s community colleague, said: “We see the Foundation as one of the many ways to give something back to the communities that support us. That’s why we lend a hand to the wide range of good causes with which our colleagues are involved, sharing their passion and helping to make a difference through a variety of projects locally and across the UK.
“Supporting smaller, local applications such as the Enterprise Centre is really important to us – and we hope it will make a real difference within the local community in Bury.”
