Liverpool fans certainly won’t be flying alone to support the Reds in the Champions League final, with a massive increase in searches for travel from the Merseyside city to Madrid ahead of the Champions League final on 1 June 2019.

Fuelled by Liverpool’s stunning comeback against Barcelona in last night’s Champions League semi-final, leading travel planning platform Rome2rio (www.rome2rio.com) saw searches from the Merseyside city to Madrid increase by 679.55% (based on page views received on 7 May 2019 versus total received 30 April to 6 May 2019).

“The dramatic increase represents the passion the North West has for Liverpool FC,” says Greg Moskovitch, spokesperson for Rome2rio. “Before the match, we’d seen very few searches which perhaps reflected the wider football community’s thoughts that Barcelona had the tie in hand. But last night’s inspired performance at Anfield has certainly given Liverpool fans belief that they can lift the iconic trophy in Madrid, and the Spanish city looks like it will be painted red come 1 June.”
