A festive tram will take centre spot on the town’s civic Christmas card this year.
An image of the town’s illuminated train by local amateur photographer Lilian Marshall was chosen to take pride of place on the front the Mayor’s Christmas card this year.
The photo beat 38 other entries sent through to the competition, and has now been printed off and posted to over 300 addresses, including to the Queen, Prime Minister and twin town Bottrop.
Mrs Marshall visited the Town Hall to see her photograph get designed into the final card, as well as seeing the first cards get printed and cut into shape, ready to be posted.
She then received her own copy of a signed card from the Mayor, and saw the cards labelled and enveloped ready to send to Buckingham Palace and Downing Street.
Mrs Marshall took the photo of the tram one evening in south shore and was overjoyed to have won the competition.
She said: “It’s marvellous. I’m so happy to have won but to see it turn from one picture into the cards ready to send out is fantastic.”
Mayor of Blackpool, Cllr Kath Rowson, said: “This picture had such Christmassy colours and is iconic as an image of Blackpool.
“There were such a variety of pictures so it was difficult to choose but this picture really fit the criteria well and looks really effective.
“I wanted the winner to be a local photographer who simply likes taking nice pictures of Blackpool and Lilian has done a great job here.
“Thank you to everybody who submitted a picture. There were some excellent entries which make it very difficult to choose the winner.”
