At just 27 years of age, Footlights Theatre Schools Rossendale & Burnley franchisee Aaron Doherty is going above and beyond to make a difference in his local community.

Because of this, he has been shortlisted in the Local Focus category at the bfa HSBC British Franchise Awards, taking place at the Vox, Birmingham, on November 30.

While Footlights Theatre Schools focuses on theatre for youth, Aaron has gone well beyond what is expected since taking over the franchise two years ago. He ensures that all children, including those less fortunate, all have the same experience of professional training, and also works as an ambassador for AFTER HATE, an organisation set up to help victims of hate crimes, after he himself was subjected to a hate crime 10 years ago, as well as many other activities in the community.

Managing Director, Jo Fisher, says: “I was elated to hear that our top performing franchisee had been shortlisted for a nationally recognised award with the bfa. He works tirelessly, passionately, often behind closed doors and, because of the nature of the business, he doesn’t get to mix with professionals on a day to day basis.

“He has been on such a journey to get where he is, where others would have given up at the first hurdle. He respects the brand and that we are part of the bfa and so to be shortlisted for the award is a huge achievement.

“To win the award would probably be another life changing moment for him, as he uses any opportunity to maximise his potential and aim higher. He is constantly striving to improve himself and his business.”

Pip Wilkins QFP, CEO of the bfa, said:

“In less than two years, Aaron’s Rossendale and Burnley Footlight Theatre School has become one of the network’s best performers, with over 130 clients aged three to adult. Aaron has really connected with clients and parents alike.”

Andrew Brattesani, Head of Franchising at HSBC, added:

“Aaron has become a real pillar in the community, and thinks outside the box when looking to help the local community, including offering daycare for children over busier times of the year. The fact he offers such a range of classes to everybody has made him a very well-known and respected business owner.”

Aaron will go head-to-head against two other franchisees, in November.
