Parents and relatives of Lancashire choir members were given the opportunity to enjoy the best voices the county had to offer as 10 junior schools entered The Last Choir Singing Competition, an event sponsored by David Wilson Homes for £6,000.
The competition, which was founded in 2015 by local businessman, George Critchley, was sadly postponed over the past two years due to the ongoing uncertainty created by the pandemic, but in 2022 the competition was able to proceed as normal.
All of the junior schools that wished to participate entered heats in March, with the winners and runners-up entering the grand finale, which took place on Friday 24th June.
A total of 16 schools entered the competition. From the three heats that followed, three schools from each heat were chosen to go to the final competition, as well as a wildcard school to round the entries up to 10.
As well as David Wilson Homes, The Last Choir Singing Competition is in partnership with The Lancashire Music Hub, Blackburn and Darwen Music Hub and more, with the competition aiming to showcase the talented young singers and musicians throughout the county.
The winning choir received the grand prize of a free day in a professional recording studio, where they will be able to record their winning songs, with cash prizes of £250 and £150 for second and third place respectively.
Jayne Raven, Project Co-Ordinator at The Last Choir Singing Competition, said: “We are very grateful to David Wilson Homes for its support. The plan was to have the company as the headline sponsor in 2020 but sadly the competition could not proceed due to COVID, so it was great to have them be the main sponsor of this year’s County Final Winners trophy.”
The winner of this year’s competition was Norbreck Primary Academy from Blackpool, which was accredited by three independent judges; all of which are experts in the music industry.
Rob Holbrook, Managing Director of David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are so pleased that The Last Choir Singing Competition has been able to proceed this year. It is a delightful competition that showcases the incredibly talented children of Lancashire.
“As the UK’s leading housebuilder, it is important for us to connect with the local communities in which we build, and we are more than happy to support such a marvellous event in the county.”
