A conference to discuss issues around community safety and resilience is being held in Kendal.
The event has been organised by the Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch Association and has been sponsored by the joint South Lakeland and Barrow Community Safety Partnership (CSP).
The CSP is made up of a mixture of organisations and voluntary groups – including South Lakeland District Council, Cumbria County Council and the police and fire services – that work together on initiatives to address crime and disorder and local community safety.
The conference at Sandylands Methodist Community Centre on Saturday, 19 November, will hear from a number of speakers on the theme of ‘Building Confidence in Communities’.
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall will be talking about the importance of partnership working and other guests giving presentations will include Kate Algate, the Chief Executive of the National Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network, Sandylands community worker Reverend Jonny Gios on the subject of resilience in the community and an update on policing issues from Darren Martland, Assistant Chief Constable of Cumbria Constabulary.
The conference will be chaired by Joe Murray QPM from Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch Association.
Mr Murray said: “Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch Association are grateful to South Lakeland and Barrow Community Safety Partnership for sponsoring our AGM and Conference. We are delighted to hold the event in Kendal in an effort to provide an element of support to those who were flooded during Storm Desmond. I know that together we can build on the community spirit that was created as a result of the flooding and this event gives us an opportunity to consider how we can work in partnership in the future.
