“THE most incredible kindness” seen in the charity sector and “I’d rent it out and give the profits to Derian House,” are just some of the reactions to a house being given away in aid of the children’s hospice.

Insider North West housebuilder of the year Kingswood Homes has teamed up with Derian House Children’s Hospice for the Great Big House Giveaway.

A three-bedroom semi-detached home at Green Hills in Feniscowles, Blackburn, is up for grabs, with bundles of tickets available for as little as £5 with the aim of raising £300,000 for the charity.

The property is worth £250,000 and the generosity of the homebuilder has been recognised by people posting on social media.

John said: “This is the most incredible kindness I’ve seen in the charity sector. A house builder giving away a house totally free to a children’s hospice that covers much of the north west. Ticket money well spent.”

Suzie added: “Wonderful thing to do. I’m happy I bought tickets – the money is going to the children’s hospice, although I wish that children’s hospices weren’t ever needed. These people are angels.”

Stacey commented: “I’ve bought a ticket. Even if I don’t win – and the likelihood is I won’t – I know this has gone to a very worthy cause. Good luck everyone.”

Some appeared more optimistic and suggested they would pay it forward and offer additional support for Derian House.

Jody commented: “If I won, I’d rent it out and give the profits to Derian House.”

Karen added: “Should I win, I can sell it on give some more money to Derian House.”

Reflecting the regional house price variations, Philip Lock said: “If that was where I live it would be £600,000.”

Kingswood Homes sales director Lesley Myers said: “The Great Big House Giveaway has certainly made a big impression on people on social media. We’ve had some really supportive feedback including comments about our generosity, along with people offering to give back to Derian House should they be lucky enough to win. While there will only be one winner, the ultimate winner will be Derian House who will be able to use the funds raised to support seriously ill children and their families.”

Caroline Taylor, Head of Income, Communications and Marketing at Derian House Children’s Hospice, said: “The generosity we’ve seen through the Great Big House Giveaway has absolutely blown us away. From Kingswood Homes donating this fantastic £250,000 house to us in the first place, and now with the heart-warming comments being made on social media. It really shows you that there are some wonderful people in this world.

“Derian House costs £5.7 million to run every year and we receive only a small percentage of this from NHS-funding. That’s why acts of generosity are so important in ensuring we can continue to offer care for 450 families from across the North West when they need us most.”

Bundles of tickets start from just £5 for six entries to win the Byre 3 home in the draw. To enter see www.derianhouse.co.uk/house.

There will be a guaranteed winner of the prize draw to be announced at a glittering gala ball at Hoghton Tower, Preston, on September 17. Tickets for the ball are available from £2,500 for a table of 10 from Julia.jeory@kingswoodhomes.uk.com.
