The US Presidential Election is just months away, and whilst many people are debating if Joe Biden can dethrone Donald Trump, the current Head of State, rapper Kanye West has now thrown his name into the mix – and, if you’re looking for great odds on the US Presidential Elections, West is as big as 50/1 to be appointed to office!
Last weekend the rapper announced on his official twitter page that he will be running for president, saying: “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION”

Kanye’s fans showed their support for the rapper in the comments, whilst billionaire Tesla owner, and SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, who Kanye shared a head swap picture with just days before, replied: “You have my full support!”
At this stage, it’s unclear if the 43-year-old actually has any real intentions of running for president, after all, it’s not the first time Kanye has teased us with this announcement. At the MTV Video Awards in 2015, he ended his acceptance speech by claiming that he would run this year, but those plans seemed to be put on the back burner last year when he tweeted ‘2024’ – hinting that he would wait until the next election. However, even if West was being serious, is it too little, too late for the Stronger rapper?
The election is only four months away, and Kanye, who has voiced his support for Trump in the past, visited the president at the Oval Office, and has even been seen wearing one of the 74 year old’s ‘Make America Great Again’ caps, would have an almost impossible task on his hands to even be considered for the running. West would have to register with the Federal Election Commission, launch a campaign, and gather together enough signatures, alongside many other things, to even just get his name onto the ballot later this year!
To make matters worse for the Chicago-native, he has missed the deadline to file as an independent in numerous states – including California – where he currently resides.
West has said in the past: “If I decide to do it (run for president), it will be done.” By this point, we bet you’re thinking what Kanye would be like as president? Well, in a 2018 interview with Charlamagne, he said: “The Trump campaign and maybe the Bernie Sanders principles. That would be my mix.”
Whilst, Kanye claims that running for president ‘will be done’, some people still aren’t convinced. It’s believed that the whole thing could be a publicity stunt for his upcoming album – and when Kanye is involved, you can’t rule out an obscure outburst in order to drum up attention! Meanwhile, there’s also conspiracy theories that West is running to win black voters away from Biden, in a bid to help to Trump!
Whether or not Kanye will actually run is still unclear. However, after the 2016 election, you wouldn’t rule out the idea that the rapper could become the president of the United States of America! We can see it now, Kanye as the Head of State, First Lady Kim Kardashian, Elon Musk vice-president, and the rest of the wider Kardashian clan scattered throughout the Cabinet.
