The team at Camp Digital, one of the UK’s leading design conferences, has announced a brand new feature for the event’s eighth year – a pre-conference workshop with well-known industry leaders Jared Spool and Dana Chisnell.

The full-day workshop, taking place from 9am – 5:30pm on 11th June at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre, is called “Design for Delight.” It will explore what makes great design that delights its users and exceeds expectations.

Attendees will take on a real-world project that has all the potential of being boring and turn it into something that delights, using a range of design techniques. They will learn how to move beyond “features” that only make a product or service more complex, and instead create something which has the potential to change people’s lives.

The group will be encouraged to broaden their research approach in order to put customers at the centre of an organisation’s long-term product strategy. Teams will also come to a shared understanding of what makes long-lasting delight, informed by solid user research and a rich storytelling approach to communicating an organisation’s vision.

The workshop will draw upon Jared and Dana’s decades of research in their respective fields. Jared is one of the world’s foremost UX thinkers and practitioners. He’s the co-founder of Center Centre and founder of User Interface Engineering (UIE), the largest UX consulting and research organisation of its kind in the world. Dana, meanwhile, is co-founder of the Center for Civic Design and a pioneer in government design.

Shaun Gomm, Sigma’s commercial director and host of Camp Digital, commented: “This brand new, supplementary element to Camp Digital is hugely exciting. Jared and Dana are at the top of their game when it comes to consulting on design and UX, so this is a must for anyone who wants to broaden their horizons and learn some practical new methods of working. Space is limited, so we advise booking early!”
