PRESS pause on your Netflix subscription or take a break from your takeaway coffee and you COULD own a brand new home worth £250,000 AND help a children’s hospice.

Kirstie Allsopp recently hit the headlines after suggesting young people could afford to buy a house if they quit Netflix, gym memberships and coffee. The reality might not be quite so clear cut, but the Great Big House Giveaway could provide a route to homeownership while supporting a good cause.

Kingswood Home has gifted a three-bedroom property at its flagship Green Hills development in Feniscowles, Blackburn, to Derian House Children’s House to raise funds for the charity in a prize draw.

Bundles of tickets start from just £5 for six entries for a chance to win a house worth £250,000.

Lesley Myers, sales director for Kingswood Homes, said: “Raising a deposit is one of the biggest barriers to homeownership and making short term lifestyle changes can help boost savings quicker. Some people are able to sacrifice streaming services, gym memberships and barista coffees in the medium to long term to achieve that goal, but it’s not for everyone for a variety of reasons.

“Entering the Great Big House Giveaway could be an alternative to sacrificing the things you love for months on end as for the price of a month’s Netflix or a couple of coffees you could buy six entries, while for the price of a month’s gym membership you could buy 40 entries, with the money going to help Derian House support the families of children with life-limiting conditions.”

Caroline Taylor, head of income, marketing and communications at Derian House Children’s Hospice, said: “Kirstie’s comments about young people cancelling Netflix to get on the property ladder haven’t gone down well, but for one lucky person the reality will be that they will win a brand new £250,000 home for as little as £5. So although missing your morning takeaway coffee may not guarantee you can afford to buy a house – it might just mean you could win one!”

The house being given away is a three-bedroom detached Byre 3. It offers 1,044 sq ft of living space including a living room at the front, with a generous combined kitchen / dining / family room extending the width of the property with patio doors leading out to the rear garden.  A handy utility/ cloakroom, plus storage space completes the ground floor.

Upstairs, two of the three bedrooms are doubles, with one boasting an en-suite to complement the family bathroom.
