Local residents are being invited to a drop-in event to see the proposed plans for a children’s play area in Queens Park.
The consultation event will take place at the Council’s Couch which will be parked at Lidl’s car park, Devonshire Road on Monday 2 July between 2-6pm and is open to all residents from the local area who want to have their say.
Families are being encouraged to get involved and give their opinions on the play equipment which will be displayed on the day.
The new play park is part of the £22m redevelopment of Queens Park estate. When complete, the redevelopment will provide 191 new homes along with public open space, a children’s play area and a revamped Layton Recreation Ground.
Cllr Graham Cain, Cabinet Secretary for Blackpool Council, said: “We want those in the community to help us shape the future of facilities at Queen Park so I’d urge people not to miss out.
“We’ll present two options for the play area and ask people to pick their preferred one, as well as asking if they have a strong opinion about particular pieces of equipment.
“We really want to hear people’s views on the proposals so that we can continue the redevelopment of a new neighbourhood that is a great place to live for current and future generations.”
The budget for the play area is £107,000 with a £50,000 contribution from lottery funded programme, Blackpool Better Start.
Sharon Mather, Senior Community Development Manager at Blackpool Better Start, said: “Because there isn’t an abundance of green space in Central Blackpool, we were keen to invest in this scheme to create a safe space for the community to use and enjoy.
“We urge local families and residents to come to the drop-in so they can have their say on what happens in their neighbourhood, and we’ll be on hand to answer any questions.”
The final play area design will be agreed following feedback from the drop-in event with plans to install the play equipment in autumn and open for use towards the end of the year
