GVA Manchester has been appointed as contract administrator and quantity surveyor by Stafford College for a £3.5 million college building refurbishment.

The 3,500 m2 four storey Broadeye building will provide a new Advanced Manufacturing and STEM Centre for students in the county town of Stafford.

The centre will become a state-of-the-art science and technology hub with 21st century teaching spaces, IT suites and laboratories, located in the heart of the existing college campus.

The project, which started on site in January, will be complete by June 2017.

Paul Chesworth, director in GVA’s Building Consultancy team, said: “This is an exciting project which marks Stafford College’s commitment to improving their science and technology offering.

“This project will be the first of the wider campus upgrade and refurbishment programme which will modernise the college and make it relevant to the local student population.”

Craig Hodgson, Vice Principal of Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group, said: “We are delighted to appoint GVA as quantity surveyor and contract administrator.

“Having gained the necessary funding from the LEP to enable the works to be carried out we are thrilled to have seen the work begin on site this month.”

The Broadeye Building was constructed circa 1980 as the college refectory and gymnasium. It was substantially refurbished in 2005 with the formation of an additional floor and pitched tiled roofs over the original flat roofs, to create the current teaching accommodation.
