As part of the ‘Clean for the Queen’ event in April, local schools, community groups, businesses and other guests were welcomed to Trafford Town Hall, during the Queen’s 90th Birthday beacon lighting event.

In advance of the event, and as part of the Council’s on-going #BeResponsible campaign, primary schools in the borough were invited to take part in a competition to create ‘Litter monsters’ from litter they had recovered in and around their schools grounds or from home, which were judged on the evening.

Speaking about the prize giving, Cllr Reilly, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economic Growth, Environment and Infrastructure, said “The competition was strong, however Kings Road Primary were the winners with their fantastically designed and constructed entry, Kingston the Recyclable Robot. It was with great pleasure that during Waste Less, Live More Week, Trafford Council were able to present Kings Road Primary with the bin, generously paid for by intu Trafford Centre.

Michelle Barlow, Teacher at Kings Road Primary school said, “Everyone at Kings Road Primary School is so proud of our Eco Warriors. We are all working extremely hard as a school to gain our 1st Eco-Schools Award and the effort the children put in to this recycling project truly shows their dedication.”

Waste Less, Live More week, was promoted throughout Trafford Council last week, following hard work and dedication by the Environmental Improvement Team who engaged both staff and the wider community to get involved in being responsible and loving where they live.
