Burnley CouncilResidents across Burnley who face “fuel poverty” are set to benefit from a new scheme.

Burnley Council is recommended to join a Lancashire-wide scheme aimed at helping eligible residents receive grants for central heating in their homes.

The Lancashire Central Heating Fund will be administered by Blackburn with Darwen Council. It follows a successful bid for £2.2 million from the Government which will be used to deliver around 900 grants across the county.

A report to Burnley Council’s executive, which meets on 16 th August, recommends that Burnley joins the scheme to benefit residents in “fuel poverty” and who struggle to pay for a suitable heating system in their home.

Councillor John Harbour, executive member for housing and environment, said:

“There are people in Burnley who struggle financially to the point they can’t afford to properly heat their home. This scheme will help support those in fuel poverty to make their homes warm and dry.”

The project will support other similar schemes to provide heating grants and be promoted under the existing Cosy Homes in Lancashire partnership.
