Support from Big Yellow Self Storage, the UK’s favourite self storage provider, will go towards helping 3,000 homeless people in the city this year

Big Yellow Self Storage is offering a hand to renowned local charity The Wellspring by providing the organisation with 150 sq. ft of free storage and a designated drop off point for donations to its Rucksack Project.

The Rucksack Project has been running for six years and sees generous locals donate rucksacks filled with the likes of food, sleeping bags and clothing which are then distributed to those sleeping rough in the city. It is this time of year when temperatures drop when the scheme is most important.

The support from Big Yellow enables the charity to store donations in a safe and clean environment and allows the process to run much more efficiently with Big Yellow on hand to accept donations.

Wellspring Stockport Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Billings, who has been working at the charity for 17 years, explains: “Thanks to generous locals, the project has become bigger and bigger every year with us being able to help over 3,000 individuals last year alone. With the growing amount of people donating expected to be on par this year, we needed somewhere to house donations in one location. We’re able to easily deliver and distribute the rucksacks from the Big Yellow store which is in an accessible location – it really does make our lives so much easier.”

Big Yellow is proud to play a part in helping the lives of those in need. Ben Clements, Store Manager at Big Yellow Stockport said: “We’re passionate about supporting the local community and are delighted to be offering storage to a charity that is well known for its great work in the local area. The Rucksack Project provides a service that supports hundreds in the community and we’re thrilled to help in any way we can.”

The Rucksack Project officially opened for donations on 2nd December, but will accept deliveries throughout the year at both the resource centre between 10am – 2pm and 5pm – 8pm and during the opening hours at Big Yellow Stockport.
