As there has been increasing alarm over the COVID-19 (Corona Virus) Dr. Deepa Apté has been asked to share ways in protecting and strengthening the immune system. Please note what is shared within this article is from an Ayurvedic point of view to help prevent any viral illnesses and to help strength immune system.
Below are several approaches but it is not necessary that you follow all to help benefit the support of the immune system. It is suggest to introduce whatever suits you and your lifestyle best. Follow these along with suggestions given by your health practitioners and health authorities.
Drink 200ml of hot or warm water on empty stomach first thing in the morning.

Dietary suggestions are as follows:
- Drink minimally 1 litre of warm water every day.
- Eat soups as often as possible. Warm foods will help to remove illness and improve circulation.
- Cold dairy and dairy products should be avoided. Ex. Excess yoghurt, cold milk, cheese, cream.
- Also avoid cold meats, fish, or cold eggs.
- Consume Aloe Vera Juice as often as possible. The bitter tastes helps to scrape away excess toxins.
- Mix Tulsi & Turmeric ¼ teaspoon each in one litre of water and bring to boil so it turns into a decoction. Drink this over the course of the day as a herbal tea.
- Gargle with warm / hot water a mix of one capsule of Triphala powder and water. Gargle every morning with this warm / hot Triphala water before brushing your teeth. This helps with oral and dental hygiene and also in turn helps with strengthening nasal and respiratory passages.
