Salford Quays office development, Anchorage has raised over £500 for BBC Children in Need from the sale of pots of honey produced by the building’s own bee hives.
The rare honey has been shared with Anchorage tenants and has proven extremely popular, prompting Canmoor, the retained asset managers, to ask tenants to sell or raffle the jars for the charity.
Each business based at Anchorage was gifted a number of jars with a target to raise a minimum of £10 per pot. Additional jars were raffled off at reception, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to charity.
This year, BBC The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge, which saw six young people taking on a gruelling 423-mile cycle in the name of Children in Need, started its journey in Salford, inspiring the Anchorage team to support the cause.
Ian Murray, director at Canmoor, said: “The bee hives were installed in May 2017 and we’ve had great feedback from our beekeepers to say that they have been thriving this year.
“Previous Anchorage honey sales sold out within minutes, so we felt that it would be a good opportunity to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
“There’s been a lot of progress at Anchorage over the last few months as we’ve been delivering our programme of refurbishment works and there’s lots to look forward to on the new year, but it’s great to end 2018 on a high with this donation.”
An extensive £8million refurbishment programme at the 220,000 sq ft, four-building office complex is currently underway with phase one expected to complete in mid February 2019, and others commencing on site in the New Year.
