New short courses starting soon include an Introduction to: Music technology, Web-design, Computer Accounting for small businesses and Photography.
These new courses are offered alongside existing courses which include maths and English, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Additionally there are vocational courses for Childminding and Teaching Assistants. Other opportunities to learn basic kitchen and customer Service skills for the hospitality sector are available. Encouraging people to build up their skills and confidence, improving their job prospects, learning a new skill or simply to stay healthy and maintain their wellbeing.
Stopford Open Learning Centre the Service’s main learning site, is conveniently located a short walk from Stockport Town Centre. The Service also delivers courses at various venues across the borough including libraries, children’s centres and community buildings.
The Service has a strong commitment to meeting the needs of disadvantaged individuals and communities, and helping people with disabilities achieve their goals.
Councillor Dean Fitzpatrick Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Education said: “The new courses further enhance the offer and desirability of the Continuing Education service in Stockport, giving people the chance to learn new skills, build their confidence and create opportunities for themselves, their families and ultimately the whole community.”
