Burnley and Pendle District Angling Association donated £556 to Burnley Council. The money will be used to pay for a new noticeboard which will be installed at Rowley Lake car park by the council’s greenspaces team.
It will allow fisherman and the wider community to share information, which is currently being zip-tied to fences and pinned to trees causing damage to them.
Sean Kerr, parks development officer at Burnley Council, said: “It is really encouraging to see different groups working in partnership with the council to enhance amenities like Brun Valley Forest Park.
“We would like to thank Burnley and Pendle District Angling Association for their kind donation, which will complement the work that has been taking place to improve the provision of information here.
“In the near future there will be finger posts installed throughout the network of paths giving distances and destinations as well as interpretation panels and more notice boards. This will all be done ahead of a Brun Valley Forest Park Festival planned for June 2017.”
Earlier this year the council, along with a group of volunteers and anglers, carried out tree pruning and footpath installation to allow access and clearance to fishing pegs around the lake, which will increase the capacity to take part in fishing around the lake.
Association treasurer Ian Mann said: “We would like to thank the council for its assistance in improving the footpaths to fishing pegs, installation of life buoys, tree work and other work that has generally improved the area. This work would have taken a long time to do ourselves and the council did it very efficiently, so we look forward to working with them in the future.”
Rowley Lake sits within Brun Valley Forest Park and is a fantastic amenity for the residents and visitors of Burnley to enjoy. The park covers an area of 120 hectares and has many kilometres of multi-user footpaths and new bridges through extensive areas of woodland, meadow and waterside habitats.
