Trafford residents now have until 16 January 2017 to ‘have their say’ on Trafford’s development plan proposals, submitted as part of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.

The consultation on the first draft of the Framework has been underway since 31 October 2016, with five well attended  consultation events held locally. The importance of the plan, which has generated significant public interest already across Greater Manchester, cannot be overemphasised and the decision has been taken to extend the consultation to ensure everyone who wants to can take part.

The framework has been developed to ensure Greater Manchester has the housing and land available to attract investors, boost growth in the local economy and ensure the necessary infrastructure is in place to meet future needs.

Trafford Council Leader, Cllr Sean Anstee said: “Trafford’s economy is already acknowledged as the North West’s most resilient. We are committed to further strengthening it and making sure we have sufficient housing, leisure and cultural opportunities to support people. I want to personally urge anyone who has not yet commented on our proposals to make sure they do so before the deadline on 16 January.

It is only by working together, listening and taking on board the views of everyone that we can move forward and deliver final plans which meet the borough’s future needs and local people’s expectations. By achieving this we will all have played an important part in securing Trafford’s future prosperity and growth, reinforcing our borough as a superb place to live, work and visit.

But it is about more than just Trafford. By working collaboratively with Greater Manchester’s other nine councils, we can ensure our future strength and prosperity is shared across the region.”

The second draft will be published in Summer 2017 and there will be further consultation around this and then again before the plan is adopted, in late 2018, when the public will be given the opportunity to make their representation to an independent inspector.
