“’Ice to meet you”
The winners of a competition run as part of Burnley town centre’s Christmas festival were at the town hall to pick up their prizes.
As part of the two-day festival, the town centre was turned into a frosty winter wonderland with a dazzling ice sculpture trail which included a Yoda, Olaf the Snowman and Father Christmas all carved out of ice. There was even an interactive carving wall in Market Square where visitors could help to carve a beautiful snowflake out of a block of ice.
Each of the 10 sculptures featured a letter, all together hiding a festive word or a phrase. Visitors were invited to collect the letters and solve the puzzle to be entered into a free prize draw. The winners were drawn by the Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Jeff Sumner.
The results were as follows:
1. Four-year- old George Meeks who won a £50 Marks & Spencer gift card
2. David Webb who won £30 Wilko gift card; and
3. Keira McCormack who won Boots vouchers for a free canvas print, facial and makeover vouchers
The prizes were donated by Marks & Spencer, Wilko and Boots in support of the Burnley Christmas Festival. All three stores are corporate partners in the Healthy High Streets programme, aimed at boosting footfall and investment in the town centre.
The winners were presented with their prizes by the council’s town centre manager Catherine Price.
She said: “The festival was a huge success and the ice sculptures really caught people’s attention. People of all ages took part in the trail around the town centre and told us how much they enjoyed it. We’re very grateful to M&S, Wilko and Boots for supporting the event and generously providing prizes for the competition.”
