The Greater Manchester Sports Awards ceremony took place recently at Lancashire County Cricket Club.



It was an extremely successful night for Stockport’s Voluntary Sports Sector, with Rio Paralympian bronze medal winner Andy Small winning ‘Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year’ and England basketball player Jessica Eadsforth Yates winning ‘Sports Achiever of the Year’.

Other finalists from Stockport included David Hulme (Coach of the Year), Derek Waterfield (Unsung Hero of the Year), Rachel Hancock (Volunteer of the Year) and Reddish North End Football Club (Club of the Year).

Cllr Alex Ganotis, Leader of the Council said: “Congratulations for a successful night for Stockport Sports winning 2 out of 7 categories available. It is wonderful to see Stockport Sport recognised at this event, the awards for all of our finalists are thoroughly deserved and a credit to Stockport. It is an inspiring end to a great year for sports people in Stockport.”
