That was the verdict at VisitBlackpool’s end of season review event at the Winter Gardens as hoteliers, attractions, business owners and those responsible for promoting the town looked back on the highlights of 2016.

The event, attended by more than 100 leading figures from the industry, also saw the launch of Blackpool’s 2017 Destination Guide and a preview of VisitBlackpool’s new look website, which will be officially launched in early 2017.

The event attendees were kept up to date with the latest initiatives for 2017;

  • Marketing the resort nationally will see the launch of a new 2017 destination marketing campaign which follows on from the successful Blackpool Has It All campaign
  • Blackpool’s iconic Air Show will move to a weekend event and will take place on the 12-13th August 17
  • Bringing in high profile arts engagement initiative such as KONG, the reimagining of the King Kong Story thanks to an Arts Council grant
  • Continuing to develop Blackpool’s business tourism offer with a bid to build a 21st century conference centre in the resort
  • “The Resort Pass” exceeds all targets and sells over a million in 2016 – the team will continue to develop the all in one pass to Blackpool attractions which has proved so popular
  • Bringing further high-quality shows to the Winter Gardens, these include Wonderland, Hairspray, The Wedding Singer, Cirque Berserk and Dirty Dancing

Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council thanked businesses and residents for supporting events and tourism this year and pledged to continue ……

She said: “It has been a truly fantastic season.

“We’ve had the success of the Nickelodeon Switch-On Weekend, the World Fireworks Championships, and Blackpool Air Show, not to mention the Illuminations, LightPool and the LightPool Festival and so much more it has been an exciting time for Blackpool.
“Add that to the incredible regeneration work that has gone on here from the transformation of the Promenade and the creation of the Comedy Carpet and Festival House to the sparkling new Talbot Gateway Central Business District that now greets visitors who get off the train at Blackpool North Station and we really believe we have a winning formula.

“As the campaign says Blackpool has it all and our job now is to build on that in 2017.”
