Stockport Council and Parents in Partnership Stockport are holding a ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ Consultation event for parents/carers.

‘Preparing for Adulthood’ is part of the 0-25 SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) reforms which aim to support young people to move into adulthood with fulfilling lives.  It focuses on young people aged 14-25; the crucial age at which they start to work out what they want to do with their lives.

We believe that young people want to have choices about their future and control of their support. Working with young people with SEN and disabilities to help them prepare for adulthood can be difficult.

The consultation will take place at Vernon Park Hall, Turncroft Lane, Offerton Stockport SK1 4AR, on Thursday 13th October at 10am- 12noon or 7pm-9pm. Tea and coffee will be available and parking will be free.

Councillor Colin Foster, Executive member for Children & Family Services, said: “Deciding what you want to do when you’re older, is a very hard choice to make when you are so young.

“This consultation will hopefully help parents and carers supporting a young person with special education needs and disabilities to make the right choices and give them the support they need.”
