Hope you’re enjoying the ‘summer’! Outdoor activities such as bowling are great way of keeping fit and socialising, but here’s a reminder for you to be sun safe (be optimistic, it may happen!)
Residents who also enjoy walking are advised to take extra precaution, pack the essentials, water and sun cream.
There are some simple tips to stay safe in the hot weather:
• Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm
• Make sure you never burn
• Cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses
• Use at least factor 15 sunscreen that has the letters “UVA” in a circle logo and at least 4 star UVA protection
It isn’t necessary to buy the most expensive sun cream, as long as it has a factor of 15 or above. We know that if you buy a cheaper sun cream you are more likely to apply more, meaning you’re more protected.
Councillor Tom McGee, Executive member for health said: “I encourage people to stay active, but in the heat it is very important you take extra care. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day and applying high factor sun cream will mean you can continue to be active without any risks of becoming unwell or sunburnt.”
