A Lake District hotel is giving its guests the chance to travel like Venetian tourists with the introduction of a waterborne transport service to ferry them across Windermere to key tourist destinations.

English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues has been working with Windermere Lake Cruises to introduce the service for its guests at Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina.

With mid morning departures from Low Wood Bay Jetty each day throughout the summer months until 30 October, guests can simply walk out onto the hotel’s private jetty and hop straight onto a boat which can take them to Ambleside, Wray Castle and Brockhole (Lake District Visitor Centre).

Return trips bring guests back to the hotel in mid or late afternoon. And with connections to Bowness and Lakeside from Ambleside, visitors can get around the whole of England’s largest lake and see many of its sights whilst leaving the car at the hotel.

Nevil Jeffery the general manager at Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina says:  “Thanks to this waterbus service run by Windermere Lake Cruises, our hotel residents can now freely explore Windermere by boat.

“We’re pretty sure that Low Wood Bay is currently the only hotel in Britain with its own regular waterbus service, so you don’t have to go all the way to Venice to get a taste of stylish water-borne tourism.

“Guests can also change boats at Waterhead in Ambleside for easy access to Bowness, Ferry House, Lakeside and Fell Foot.  It gives them a wonderfully tranquil way to travel on the water and take in the spectacular surrounding landscapes without having to get into the car.”

With adult tickets starting from as little as £2.10 and children benefitting from discounts, the Low Wood Bay waterbus service also offers lower price family and group bookings and Green Cruise return tickets via Ambleside, Wray Castle and Brockhole.  With any Green Cruise ticket, guests can jump off at any stop and come back on a later boat.

The new waterbus service is a valuable piece of local transport infrastructure which complements the expansion plans for Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina, which has been run by the Berry family for more than 60 years.

The iconic 4 star hotel is set to be the Lake District’s first luxury resort hotel, with a range of new facilities, additional bedrooms, improved infrastructure and renewable energy features.  Its redevelopment is set to be the largest at Low Wood Bay for over 150 years.
