Leading housebuilder David Wilson Homes has donated £1,000 to Watermill School as part of its Community Fund Scheme.
Based in Stoke-on-Trent, Watermill School has been designed to provide for a wide range of pupils’ needs through educational, social, physical and emotional growth for children and young people with special needs aged between three and 16-years-old.
The donation from David Wilson Homes has been dedicated to providing an outdoor learning space for the pupils at the school. With the inclusion of a gazebo, sensory pathways and wheelchair access, all children will benefit from the refurbished outdoor space.
Watermill School prepares its pupils for the wider world by addressing their needs through educational, social and emotional growth, whilst ensuring younger pupils are also given the right building blocks to set them on the right track for a successful life.
Watermill School said: “We would like to thank David Wilson homes for their donation. Their contribution has been put towards letting our less able pupils have access to an outdoor learning area providing them with lots of sensory experiences”
Pupils at Watermill School all have learning difficulties ranging from moderate to severe, as well as those with physical disabilities. The school ensures its staff members are trained to meet the needs of its pupils, whilst providing specialist educational and child-centred training events.
David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
Rob Holbrook, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are committed to creating a positive impact and, as one of the UK’s leading developers, it’s really important that we support local organisations in the areas in which we build new homes.
“We wish Watermill School all the best in its outdoor learning project and hope they continue to enrich the lives of the children they provide an amazing opportunity for.”
