Daniel Blakley, Senior Site Manager for McCarthy Stone’s latest Brideoake Court Retirement Living development on Wellington Place in Standish, is celebrating after picking up a coveted Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Builders’ Council (NHBC).
This is the first time Daniel has been recognised by the NHBC. Daniel has received the prestigious accolade on behalf of McCarthy Stone, for his outstanding contribution to construction in the Northwest region.
The award recognises his leadership and commitment to quality in all aspects of the work currently underway at the development of 31 one and two-bedroom, low maintenance, independent living apartments, designed exclusively for people aged 60 and over.
For over 40 years, the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards recognises site managers across the country who are at the top of their profession and are creating homes of an outstandingly high standard. A total of 443 have been selected at this stage, from more than 8,000 entrants, meaning Daniel is amongst the top 5% who entered the competition. All of those who were successful will go on to compete for NHBC Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the Autumn.
The judging process for the Pride in the Job Awards is extremely rigorous and began in July 2021. Each site manager is assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety. Thousands of site inspections, spot checks and meticulous verification has been undertaken to arrive at the winners. Only those who demonstrate exceptional standards and outstanding quality receive an award.
Commenting on his award success, Daniel, who has been with the company for 7 years, said: “At McCarthy Stone, every single aspect of our work is considered thoroughly and conducted meticulously and I am incredibly proud to lead a construction team that shares a commitment to quality in every aspect of our work.
This ethos and a lot of hard work has helped us consistently deliver developments like this one in Standish, to the highest standards.
“This level of work from my team at McCarthy Stone has been consistent across all the sites I’ve worked on and it’s fantastic to be recognised at an industry level, having previously made it to the final round before and fallen short. I have won awards in previous roles, but this is my first award as a site manager at McCarthy Stone so it’s really special and I’m delighted.”
John Tonkiss, McCarthy Stone CEO said: ‘’All of our site managers work incredibly hard to deliver the very highest quality standards and outstanding professionalism. I am thrilled that Daniel’s ongoing dedication has been recognised by such a prestigious award. Congratulations, it’s a well-deserved achievement.”
NHBC’s CEO Steve Wood added: “For more than 40 years, Pride in the Job has been an important part of our work to help drive construction quality. Winning site managers tell us that it inspires them to give a little extra and to strive harder for ever-higher standards in housebuilding.
“At NHBC we believe that the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their site team has the greatest influence on the quality of the finished home. By promoting friendly rivalry, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence, Pride in the Job supports the delivery of homes of the highest quality.
“Congratulations to all the Pride in the Job 2022 Quality Award winners. They are an inspiration to us all and should be very proud of the quality of new homes they are creating.”
