wagamama updates its giant pride flag to the progressive pride flag at Manchester St Peters Square restaurant.

wagamama has unveiled it’s new progressive Pride flag signage at its Manchester restaurant in St Peter’s Square.

wagamama has chosen to update the Pride flag with the Progress Pride flag as they continue their mission to be a radically inclusive business.

Developed in 2018 by non-binary American artist Daniel Quasar, the progress flag was created to celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community by including stripes which represented all identities within the LGBTQIA+ community.

The updated flag design is proudly in partnership with Manchester Youth Pride, including a £5,000 donation, and replaces the existing flag that has been in place for four years.

On Wednesday wagamama hosted a special event, where they invited all local LGBTQI+ communities from the Manchester area into their restaurant, which they closed to the public from 6pm.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate being proud beyond the month of pride and to create a networking space where all communities and charities could come together.

A wagamama spokesperson said: “At wagamama radical inclusion sits at the heart of everything that we do. Acknowledging, celebrating, and warmly welcoming everyone no matter their identity, is a commitment we’re restlessly dedicated to. We believe Pride shouldn’t just be acknowledged during one single month of the year, but every day, all year long. Which is why in 2018 we installed the rainbow flag as a visual statement that our restaurants are a safe sanctuary for the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Now four years on, it’s time that we updated the sign to better reflect every community we’re proud to celebrate, work alongside and serve noodles to. We couldn’t be prouder to be partnering with Manchester Youth Pride to replace our previous flag with the progress flag. Reminding all on-lookers that every being has the right to love who they want, and to be who they are.”

wagamama: our story and our food ‘kaizen’, meaning ‘good change’ is the philosophy that sits right at our heart. It shapes every dish we create, and pushes us to find better ways in all that we do. We’re restless spirits, forever creating and making things better.
