As we approach (another) Bank Holiday weekend at the start of June, Operations Director, Chris Adams, at Car Dealership, Brindley Group offers some essential insight on preparing both your car and yourself ahead of a long bank holiday drive!

Advice to Drivers

“Whether they’re with friends or family, bank holiday road trips can make for some truly memorable times. But they can also be paved with all sorts of headaches and issues if you skip out on prepping for them. To keep the stress levels low, however, there are plenty of top road trip tips you can use before getting behind the wheel.

First things first, giving your car a once over should help to prevent any badly timed breakdowns along the way. Make it a point to check your tyre pressure, fill up on engine coolant, inspect the windscreen for cracks, test the car’s lights, and check your oil level.

By doing this, you’ll be off to a strong start. And whether you drive a car with a combustion engine or it’s an electric vehicle you get around in, you should always make sure you have enough juice to get from A to B.

Next, you should plan your route in advance – even if you’re using a sat nav. That way you can identify areas that might pose a problem, parts of the journey where roads may be congested, and places you can stop for lunch or take breaks in.

A good night’s sleep before your drive and plenty of water and healthy snacks will keep you fuelled up and alert too. Junk food and heavy meals can make you feel drowsy, which is not what you want when you’ve got miles ahead of you.

Lastly, if you’re travelling with kids, then a collection of travel games, charged up tablets and activity books should provide them with plenty of distractions so you can focus on the drive. There are no words more frustrating to hear during a journey than “are we nearly there yet?” after all.”
