A group of residents at a Workington based care home got together to discuss the lives and poems of famous poets for World Poetry Day.
World Poetry Day was celebrated at MHA Amathea at the request of the poetry group set up at the home.
MHA Amathea provides residential and dementia care for 40 residents in purpose-built, en suite accommodation.
The activities room was set up with various poems displayed and residents were encouraged to read and give their feedback on them.
Also, the lives and history of various poets including Robert Frost and Stanley Holloway were discussed.
Yvonne Burrow, activity coordinator said: “The members of the poetry group were really looking forward to World Poetry Day and were asking me to plan something for this.
“The residents really enjoyed the activities on the day and participated really well.
“We were reading and discussing the poems written by various poets as well as looking into the lives of the poets. The discussions in the room were very positive and I was very proud of how the residents responded to one another.
“The residents have also managed to write a poem based on their memories of growing up and it’s nice to see them really taking an interest in something.”
