As we wave goodbye to the last of the summer sun and the colder weather begins to settle in, it’s time to think about what lies ahead this autumn.

If you’re stuck for ideas on how to keep the kids busy on the run-up to Christmas, we’ve put together a list of autumn activities that are sure to keep the whole family entertained this season.

Movie Marathons

This might sound basic, but as we know all too well, the British weather doesn’t always favour us and across autumn there can be lots of heavy rainfall. But don’t let dull, drizzly days put a stop to all the fun. Why not build a magical fort inside, out of cushions, pillows, and any other household items you can get your hands on? Add a lamp or some fairy lights and blankets to make it extra cosy. Then all you need next is some tasty snacks and a few of the family’s favourite films and suddenly you’ve turned a rainy day can into an indoor adventure!

Go Camping

Autumn is often the best time to go camping because it’s the perfect temperature – you don’t have to contend with overheating in the height of summer, or shivering amidst the frosty winter evenings, either. Nothing quite brings the family together like sharing mugs of hot chocolate around a campfire, telling spooky stories to get into the spirit of Halloween. Be sure to get in touch with friends and family to see if you can borrow any camping equipment. If not, consider using a secure payment method to gather all of the essentials you may need.

Visit Your Local Pumpkin Patch

For lots of children, one of the most exciting parts of Halloween is getting a pumpkin to carve and display outside for all to admire. Instead of just going to grab one from the supermarket, why not visiting your local pumpkin patch? Not only is this a fun day out for all the family, but it’s more exciting for the kids as they can throw on their wellies and go exploring to pick the perfect pumpkin. It also allows you to support your local farmers who spend months nurturing their pumpkin patches to be ready in time for Halloween.

Start Knitting

If your children are inquisitive and always up for a challenge, why not teach them a new skill this autumn? Knitting is great because not only does it keep the kids quiet while they concentrate but it also allows them to get excited to be able to wear the finishing product in the cold wintery weather. Start with something which isn’t too difficult such as a woolly hat or a small scarf, and be sure to supervise at all times. You could give the final products as Christmas gifts to grandparents or family members, who will appreciate the hard work that has gone into them.
