The search is on for a talented, enthusiastic, fun-loving Musical Director to take over the baton of one of the country’s few dedicated Choirs for those living with and beyond cancer.

Founded in 2012, Bolton Cancer Voices has a single criterion for membership; that you must have had a cancer diagnosis, of any type, at some point in life. The friendly, just under 40-strong Choir, meets weekly on Monday evenings throughout the year: when members come together to share their love of singing; enjoy fun, uplifting experiences; meet new challenges and look forward to their forthcoming concerts. Though their focus is singing, rehearsals provide an invaluable opportunity for cancer patients and cancer survivors to benefit from meeting others in a similar situation. Their determination not to let cancer define or restrict them recently saw members participating in the ‘Festival of Brass and Voices’, at the world-renowned Royal Albert Hall, London.

After six and a half years in post Clive Rushworth, the current post-holder, is reluctantly stepping down due to his many competing commitments.

Karen Elliott, Founder and Chair said: –
‘Singing is increasingly recognised as having therapeutic benefits, particularly singing within the social setting of a Choir. For many members the Choir plays an important role in their journey as they move forward with and beyond cancer: we are determined to ensure we continue to provide our own positive form of support.

We are devastated to be losing Clive: he’s been an integral part of the team from the beginning; without his willing support and enthusiasm the Choir might never have got off the ground! In a relatively short period of time we have come so far in terms of our technical ability, confidence, cohesion and performance skills thanks to his belief, determination and expertise. We need to keep this momentum going and continue to inspire, challenge and develop; making the next chapter of our story as exciting and rewarding as the inaugural years have been.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with the requisite professional skills and experience, who will continue to make our rehearsals and performances exciting and learning easy for all.
We need an exceptional individual who shares our ethos and drive, ensuring we are the best we can be: someone who feels passionate and committed to becoming the Musical Director of Bolton Cancer Voices.

We have received several enquiries but we are not there yet and are keen to reach more potential candidates.

This is a wonderful, unique opportunity to be part of something very special.’
