Kendal based sausage maker Plumgarths is amid celebration after reaching an impressive 15-year milestone since their first listing with supermarket Asda.
Plumgarths Farm started making sausages in the back of a shop and now operate from a purpose-built production facility in Kendal where they produce over 100,000 sausages a week.
Originally launched at the Kendal store, now 15-years on with a little help from Asda, the company has helped re-establish the local supply chain and built a fine reputation as one of the highest quality meat suppliers in the region.
They provide over 30 assorted lines of sausages, burgers and pork products to 11 North West Asda branches including their local store in Kendal.
Steve Chambers at Plumgarths, said: “Plumgarths has enjoyed a great relationship with Asda over the past 15 years.
“The name gained established company status back in 2002 and ever since originally launching in the Kendal store, we’ve seen amazing company growth as we continue to provide ethical and high-quality meat to customers across the North West.
“Plumgarths’ traditional Cumberland sausage was awarded PGI status giving it the same status and recognition within the EU as products such as Champagne, Parma Ham and Cornwall Clotted Cream!”
Traditional Cumberland sausages displaying the PGI mark will have been produced, processed and prepared in locally in Cumbria.
The impressive accolade symbolises the products contain at least 80 percent meat with at least 20 millimetres thickness to achieve the characteristic of coarse texture.
Mark Swift, store manager at Asda Kendal, said: “Being able to work alongside local and ethical suppliers such as Plumgarths is becoming increasingly more important for supermarket brands.
“It just goes to show how the brand continues to grow, especially as customers are more interested than ever in where, and how, their products are sourced.
“Companies like Plumgarths form the backbone of our communities, and we’re delighted to continue on the company journey with them, just as we have done for the last fifteen years!”
