eSky has arrived in the UK and is set to shake up how we research, plan and buy the various elements of our travel – for both business and leisure. eSky aims to inspire us to explore more, venture further afield and discover the undiscovered. It does this as it has over 950 airlines and in excess of 1.3 million hotel partners – more than any other current travel booking sites in the UK.

eSky commissioned independent research to find out what truly ignites Brits’ wanderlust. A whopping 44% of people in the North West region are considering taking a Staycation this year – due to the growing uncertainty surrounding Brexit. This equates to approximately 3.2 million residents! Let’s all hope for another long hot summer as we enjoyed in 2018!

For those who are looking to holiday closer to home this year, eSky has rounded up its top ten “Jewels of the North West”.

1)    St Bees

Back in AD 650, St Bees was home to a nunnery, established by the princess St Bega. It is part of Viking history due to being destroyed in the early 12th century. St Bees Head cliff provides picturesque sites of the sandy beaches and is close to the RSPB nature reserve. This is home to one of England’s largest sea bird colonies and it the only UK breeding ground for black guillemots.

2)    Bardsea Country Park

The country park is home to picnic benches with picturesque views and waymarked footpaths. The Sea Wood nature trail features ancient woodland, including oak trees that were specifically planted to provide timber for ships. The gothic style Conishead Priory is a centre for Buddhist studies and is open to the public throughout summer weekends. The beautiful gardens are also open throughout the year for observation.

3)    Dalton-in-Furness

Dalton Castle is a small 14th-century tower with an interesting museum inside, which is only open on Saturdays throughout the summer. The South Lakes Wild Animal Park is also located within Dalton, which is the perfect location to take young children to see giraffes, Rhinos and Baboons.

4)    Laxey

Laxey is one of the most popular destinations within the Isle of Man due to its popular sites. The Laxey Wheel was constructed in the 1850s to pump water out of the lead-mine workings under Snaefell. Visitors are able to follow the trails through former working mines, and can also take a ride on the Snaefell Mountain Railway. This ends at a spectacular viewpoint following a half hour journey.

5)    Blackpool

Home to the pleasure beach which attracts over 10 million visitors per year, Blackpool is one of the most popular attractions for families in the UK. It is the perfect location for a UK getaway, with more than 3,500 hotels and an array of restaurants and bars.

6)    Ribble Marshes National Nature Reserve

The nature reserve is home to thousands of geese, gulls and ducks. The estuaries have been officially designated as a Special Protection area, due to the huge variety of animals which make this area their breeding ground throughout the year.
